Britax Parkway™ and Monarch™ Booster Seats Named ‘Best Bet' Models in Safety Evaluation
10/3/2008
Britax’s Parkway™ and Monarch™ belt-positioning booster seats were recognized as ‘best bet’ boosters by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) today in a study that tested how well various booster seats improve vehicle seat belt fit.
The Parkway and Monarch were among 10 booster seats recognized as best bets in an evaluation conducted by the IIHS and the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute. While both Britax booster seats are earlier models, many are still available at independent and mass retailers nationwide.
“We’re pleased to be recognized as a best bet, as our number one goal is to keep children safe,” said Jon Chamberlain, president of Britax. “Our latest booster seat, the Frontier, was modeled after the Parkway and Monarch, and improves upon the safety features found in both seats.”
The Frontier™ combination harness-2-booster was just released in May and not included in the IIHS evaluation. The seat addresses calls from groups such as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to keep children harnessed as long as possible. The Frontier is the first seat to offer children between 25 and 80 pounds a five-point harness and True Side Impact Protection, and can also accommodate children between 40 and 100 pounds as a vehicle seat belt-positioning booster.
In a vehicle seat belt fit evaluation similar to the one conducted by IIHS, Britax found that the Frontier offers a fit that is comparable to both the Parkway and Monarch.
“A booster seat’s safety belt fit varies slightly depending on make and model of the car, van or truck,” said Pankaj Amesar, advanced technology program manager for Britax. “However, when we tested the Frontier in booster position, we found that the Frontier shared the same quality of fit as the best bet booster seats.”
